About Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream National City

In the summer of 1945, Alice Handel began making ice cream in her Youngstown, Ohio backyard, using fruit from her garden and recipes she crafted with care. What started as a humble, homemade treat quickly became a neighborhood tradition — and the beginning of something truly special.

Today, at Handel’s National City, we carry that same spirit forward. Every batch of ice cream is made fresh, right here on site, using many of Alice’s original methods. From the first scoop to the last, our commitment to quality and community is just as strong as it was in 1945.

We’re proud to bring this tradition to National City — serving homemade ice cream to our neighbors, one scoop at a time.

The many years that home made Ice Cream has been around from the early Years to the Modern Days the fantastic Flavors of the Orange vanilla to the Chocolate Peanut Butter one of the best combos. Going out for my day out the many times I saw Handels Ice Cream close by the 24th Street Trolley. Stopping over at Handels Ice Cream the walk over from the trolley I saw the many posters in the windows the new advertised flavors some of the best from Strawberry Cheesecake. I was welcomed by the cashier as I looked at the large wall sign that had the many combos and one that I saw a 4 scoop combo for $8.25 you can choose the ones that you like . Seeing the customers as they get served homemade waffle cones with large scoops of home made Ice Cream. They have seats inside and outside you can sit with a bathroom that is disabled certified. Looking at the many flavors on the board I saw the rocky road and the Orange Dream with the Peacon Praline the best caramel, and a first time scoop of Oreo Cheesecake the best flavor Ice Cream. The baby customers ordered malts and sundaes they look good with the many flavors they were making in the back telling me great house made home made Ice Cream. Handels

Inconsistency on your ice cream portions, we bought the 4 scoop samplers and the size of scoops are half the size of what they were at the beginning not to mention ice cream was soft not frozen the way it should be. Both hurricanes were only 3/4 full. Your staff needs better training. Definitely not worth the price for the serving size and quality of thrice cream. Totally disappointed as this had become our new favorite ice cream spot.

My family has been coming here ever since we found out about it 3 years ago. My son and I normally order hurricane oreos...my son's came out ok...just a bit skimped on than usual (not filled to the top). However, when I received mine...1/4 of the cup was empty....and there were only BIG oreo chunks. If I wanted to buy a tub of vanilla ice cream and an individual pack of oreos I would have done so. My hurricane taste nothing but of vanilla ice cream. I did go back to try to rectify the situation, but the person who tried to fix it...made the same mistake again. Maybe she didn't understand the problem or maybe it was the machine. I was just over it and left. It looked exactly the same as the picture I sent. All big chunks of oreos in vanilla ice cream..not mixed or crushed small enough to resemble or even taste what it was suppose to be like, which was cookies and cream. It reminded me of those flurries from mcd..not worth the 9 dollars. Ended up tossing both..what a waste of time and money. One bad experience...not going back.

Fantastic ice cream and fantastic service! This was my first time visiting this shop after passing by several times and observing lines out the door. My ice cream did NOT disappoint! I chose Blueberry Cobbler, which was excellent, and I can’t wait to try some other incredible flavors. The staff were friendly and efficient. 10/10 recommend!

This the ice cream place is delicious. I love the retro atmosphere and that everything is fresh. They take a lot of pride, and they're dessert, making. There are various ice cream flavors that you have to try. This particular location tends to be very busy. So you may wanna google and look at wait times.
